WHAT DOES A MOSQUITO SOUND LIKE IN AUGUST

Why, that’s easy. It sounds like a motorcycle in your ear.
You see on the street there is a biker bar there, too.
You have never seen EASY RIDER, but you know about it.
And you know about those fancy chopper bikes. Cheap beer.
Dark girls. How fast bikers go on dusty streets and whatnot.
You know of the loneliness of the motorcycle rider.
You know of his despair. You can’t imagine such sorrow.
You know they say that it is all worthwhile. They say that.
You know that is what they say with those teeth.
You do not know why. You can’t imagine why.
And you can’t imagine such joy. You can’t imagine

buzzing in somebody’s ear, or drinking blood
just for fun. You can’t. Because – you just don’t try.
