Laura McKee

we call her Latte

only because
she stuck her nose in
a cup of coffee

maybe she’s cold
maybe she’s lost

we’ve no way of knowing
she just turns up
in our garden

gradually ventures
into the house
one room

another
the next
on my birthday morning

my mum won’t just turn up this year
I turn to see Latte
beside my bedside

all wide eyed and
hair edged ears
and sorry can’t stays

she sways
around all the corners
headbutting legs and trust
