Catriona Yule

Scarf

I wonder if you keep it,
knotted through the hook of a coatstand
bought from the antiques shop.

It was meant to keep you warm,
in the rush of wind on Autumn nights,
not hung as an ornament,

like those useless beads
you drape on photo frames,

but full to your neck,
an uncompromising Shetland beast,
scratchy, fibrous, alive,

teeth marks almost visible
on your bone white skin.
